VisuaLab Data Entry Windows

VisuaLab strictly conforms to all Windows standards so it is easy and comfortable to use. All data entry windows open within the main window much like opening multiple documents within Microsoft Word. All commands and data entry windows are available from the menu. The most frequently used menu items are broken out and displayed on a shortcut bar.

Entry is the beginning step in assigning a case. The general function of Accession Entry window is to assign an accession number to a specific case. This involves identifying the patient(s), assigning the case to a department or departments, and to list any necessary comments regarding the case such as patient history, test(s) requested by the client, current treatment, etc.

The Accession Entry window provides the user with a variety of features in order to minimize the amount of time it takes to perform data entry. Drop-down menus and search functions are two of the useful features available. The system is designed so that each drop-down menu can be customized for the individual lab. In addition, VisuaLab maintains client information in its database to allow for increased speed during data entry.

VisuaLab has also incorporated free text fields for clinical history and client notes to provide the user with maximum flexibility. A spell check function for all text fields is included with the system to ensure a professional report.

VisuaLab Multiple Patient Data Entry

Herd order entry is often tedious and time-consuming. VisuaLab provides laboratories with a simple, yet thorough mechanism to perform this duty. VisuaLab possesses an option called Auto ID. This feature is accessed through the main accession screen and allows the user to enter multiple patients to one accession quickly and accurately.

VisuaLab Order Entry

VisuaLab's Order Entry Window acts as a work list allowing the user to view all pending cases within a specified department. Each case is color coded to assist the user in determining the status of a case with one quick glance. There are five different categories in which a case may be defined beginning with basic accession assignment to historical. Since only pending cases are included in the Order Entry window, only three of the categories are depicted within the Order Entry window.

VisuaLab includes various formats of tests or in VisuaLab terminology, unit. A group of units that are frequently ordered may be classified under a Profile. This allows the user to order multiple unit codes with the click of one button. In addition, VisuaLab organizes its system in such a way that different pricing may be implemented depending on the client, the groups of tests ordered, or the number of tests ordered.

The Order Entry feature utilizes the standard drag and drop method to order tests. This method provides convenience and speed when ordering tests for a case. In addition, the system can automatically assign the specimen a test is to be performed on. In cases where multiple patients within the accession require the same test ordered, VisuaLab permits the user to assign a unit to all or only a few selected patients in the same amount of time it takes to order one unit for a single patient.

It should also be mentioned that VisuaLab allows access restrictions to be placed on users. For example, end users may only be allowed access to cases assigned to their specified department. However, other end users may be allowed access to multiple departments or may not be restricted to any VisuaLab feature.

VisuaLab Results Entry Window

The Results Entry Window provides the user with useful information and functionality. Automated data entry is available through instrument interfacing.

The format of each test results screen is fully customizable. Above each component field, VisuaLab lists the user-defined result range. This provides the user with a quick reference for the expected results of the test component. In addition, VisuaLab utilizes component result color coding to assist the end user in recognizing abnormal test patterns and distinguishing important data needed to make a proper diagnosis.

VisuaLab also allows the user to develop results entry windows with free text fields. In addition, departments may develop commonly used statements to be included with the test results. These comments are accessed by right clicking the mouse within the free text field. A pop-up menu will then appear allowing the user to paste a single or multiple department specific predefined comments. This is another example of how VisuaLab can help in making case processing quick and consistent.

VisuaLab Search Capability

Locating an item on the system is the most common and important function. Whether it is finding a case or a client, that item must be located before any kind of action can be performed on it. VisuaLab utilizes two main search windows, the standard Search window such as the Client Search window and the Case Explorer window. These windows are design with function in mind. Ultimately VisuaLab search functions are designed with the purpose of reducing the amount of time it takes to perform any given function.

The Client Search feature allows the user to search the database for client information. The stringency of the search is dependent on the user and is determined by the search criteria fields completed. The search results will be listed within the main window and can be sorted by any of the column headings made available within the window. The desired client may then be selected and a variety of actions may be performed by using the right mouse button or by using the various buttons located at the bottom of the screen.  The action options made available will depend on which search window is being utilized.

VisuaLab Case Explorer

The designers of VisuaLab have also included a useful feature called Case Explorer. Case Explorer performs multiple functions. First, it acts as a versatile and simple searching tool. The search function allows the user to find a case based on a broad range of criteria or if no information is known, it will retrieve all active items.

In addition, Case Explorer provides the user with the opportunity to perform multiple functions from one window. Once a search has been completed using the Case Explorer, the user may access various functions such as viewing lab results, editing an accession, view reporting history or the corresponding invoice of the case. This is done by selecting the case of interest and clicking the right mouse key. This innovative feature gives our end users more flexibility and it provides them with the opportunity to increase efficiency.
